Microsoft Teams missing for new users

Today, we found that a new user at a client didn’t have Teams on their remote desktop server session. I think it’s because they didn’t have a Teams license assigned to their account before they signed in, but this post is about fixing the missing icon. Here’s how!

While logged in as the affected user…

  1. Go to C:\Users\%username%\appdata\Local\Microsoft
  2. In there, delete or rename the Teams folder
  3. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Teams Installer
  4. In there run Teams.exe, which will install to C:\Users\%username%\appdata\Local\Microsoft and create the appropriate shortcuts!
