N-Central: Take Control is not configured correctly for this device

We use and really like N-Central for Windows device monitoring and management, but no software is perfect. Today, one of our clients who uses our N-Central instance to manage their PCs (we manage their servers and cloud environments) reported that Take Control (formerly MSP Anywhere) button was grayed-out.

For some reason the Take Control agent installation was corrupted on the target PC so I reinstalled the agent from scratch:

  1. Select the desired device on the N-central dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings > Properties
  3. Uncheck (clear) the option “Install Take Control”
  4. Delete the folders:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central

  5. Go to Settings > Properties
  6. Check (select) “Install Take Control” and save changes.

I can’t take credit for this – thanks, N-Central support! – but I think it will help other people so I’m posting their resolution here.
